Podcast with Lockdown defying Ian Smith
Ian Smith, co-owner of Atilis Gym in Bellmawr, New Jersey, gained national attention in 2020 for reopening his gym in defiance of Governor Phil Murphy's COVID-19 lockdown orders. This act of civil disobedience led to over 80 municipal charges, substantial fines, and multiple arrests.
In May 2024, after a nearly four-year legal battle, all charges against Smith were dismissed with prejudice by a municipal judge in Winslow Township. Smith celebrated this legal victory, viewing it as a significant step in challenging what he perceived as unjust governmental overreach during the pandemic.
